Ex 12:21 Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb.
Ex 12:22 Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the door frame. Not one of you shall go out the door of his house until morning.
Ex 12:23 When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the door frame and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
Ex 12:24 “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants.
Ex 12:25 When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony.
Ex 12:26 And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’
Ex 12:27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’ ” Then the people bowed down and worshiped.

Did you know that The Passover from the Old Testament is a foreshadow of what was to come in the new?
Jn 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
When I first began to read the Bible, I often wondered, why do we need to know about the Old Testament(covenant), if there is a new Testament(covenant)? Now I realize that we need to be familiar with the Old so that we are able to understand the New. It is kind of like Math classes. They build on top of each other. Once you have enough of the Old under your belt, you can be reading along in the New Testament, and all of the sudden it strikes your Spirit, hey this sounds familiar. You will start to notice the myriad of parallels. It is like a game of connect-the-dots. I feel as if today is such an exciting day!! A remembrance of when God rolled out the plan of our salvation! WOOHHH!! You see, just as the Israelites had to offer up a perfect lamb to sacrifice for their sins, and spread the blood over the door frames so that the death angel would pass them by, God sent us Jesus for our sins. The only difference is that there is no more sacrifice needed after Christ. He took the hit on the cross for our sins once and for all. If you BELIEVE that, you are covered just as those door frames were, and death and condemnation will pass you by on the day set aside for judgement. You are covered as a blanket of flowers cover over a field. That is how beautiful you become sin and all, in the eyes of our Father, through the blood of Christ.
Father we thank you so very much for your gift of the precious blood of Jesus! Thank you for making a way for us to get to Heaven!
